John H. Cox helps busy associations serve their many members in innovative and effective ways. He provides advocacy, communications, and legal counsel to the food and agriculture industries. A lawyer, communicator, and a seasoned association executive, he is known for bringing passion and expertise to all three roles.

“Associations are how businesses leverage their energy and influence,” Cox notes. “Working together associations can accomplish so much more than their individual member companies. Educational programming, scientific and technical research, and government relations all are more effective when businesses work together as a whole.”

John’s 25+ years of experience includes overall financial management of associations with annual revenues of up to $5 million. His expertise in communications work includes crisis communications, web strategy, workshop and educational program development, and high- profile event marketing for industry gatherings. The associations under John’s management have gained significant increases in membership tied to his strategic know-how, team leadership, and creative recruitment programs.

John also provides legal services to associations and their member companies through Verto Legal Solutions (VLS).  VLS provides non-profit corporate governance and regulatory counsel to corporations and to trade associations including ones managed by Verto Solutions.

Before founding Verto Solutions, John held positions of increasing responsibility with The Roberts Group, the association management and scientific services company.  He also worked for Members of Congress in leadership roles in the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. Prior to his time on Capitol Hill, John held positions at Booz Allen & Hamilton, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, U.S. Occupational Safety & Health Review Commission, and the Environmental Protection Agency.

John earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Alabama School of Law, and he is a member of the school’s Federal Externship Advisory Board. He earned a B.A. in English from Spring Hill College, where he serves on the National Alumni Board.  John is originally from Alabama, but he lives in Northern Virginia with his wife Francessa and their children.
